Construction of the Museum of Biological Sciences – Dr. Mérieux – Marcy L’Etoile
Project details:
-The existing building consisted in an old farm converted into a laundry facility in the past,
-To accommodate the entire program of the museum, the existing building had to be expanded to the south,
-The existing building was stripped naked and only the facades and roof structure were retained,
-The existing traditional architecture is emphasized by the creation of embrasures and angle chains made of golden stones,
-The extension, consisting in pavillons that follow the museography, keeps this architectural tradition,
-The interior is dressed in sober and more contemporary materials that highlight the museum’s scenic periods: gray stained concrete floor, steel metal parts with a rusty look…
-A red line makes the thread of the scenography. Sometimes on the ground, sometimes raised by a box, it turns into a support for the models on the evolution of the town of Marcy l’Etoile, exposed in parallel to the discoveries of biological research and laboratories installed in the town.
